Through the perilous fight...
This video brought tears to my eyes the first time I watched it, but also made me smile. I felt inspired by this man who embraces every opportunity he is given.
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger
_ June of 2011, I had my surgery for repair my torn rotator cuff. Being a
thirteen year old girl at the time, you never really pay attention to
how serious it is. You are more worried about the surgery experience. We
had been to multiple doctors before all being totally starstruck at what
it could be. As I laid on the surgery table, knocked out, my doctor
performed a career saving surgery on my rotator cuff. During rehab, I
always wondered if the pain was worth it. I always wanted to stop, but
then you would look around you and see other people struggling more than
you were. I watched as a very young woman, around her twenties maybe,
learn how to walk again. I watched as one of my best senior friends
learned how to walk again after an almost fatal collapse in Atlanta. I
always wondered why God chose me. I kept referring back to the Bible
verse Philippians 4:13. The more I thought about it, the more I realized
I wouldn't have wished that on anyone else, especially since it will be
an ongoing battle in my life. When I watched my friend walk without a
cane, it brought tears to my eyes. When I watched that woman take 3
steps on her own, I was inspired. Watching God perform miracles all
around me made me realize that I was miracle myself. With that, I was
inspired.
Until you run
_"You never know how far you can go until you run. So lets just run
y'all! Y'all can do this." Secretariat was a powerful horse who made his
mark in history by winning the Triple Crown back in 1973. As our
basketball team prepared for our second shot at a state title 2 years in
a row, we always referred to him. Our team had already made school
history by being the first girls team to make it to the state play offs,
but that just wasn't good enough. We were hungry for that state title.
As a team, we spent a lot of time together. We all got along and our
coaches were one of a kind, husband and wife of course! We all gathered
at their house and watched Secretariat together. Soon after, we found
ourselves playing for that state title once again. As we found ourselves
collecting our thoughts in the locker room and all talking excitedly,
we realized this was our time. We all listened to our coaches read a
quick Bible verse and say excitedly to us, "You never know how far you
can go until you run. So lets just run! It's your turn now. So take it!"
We played our hearts out.
