School Classes
Composition is my favorite class of the day. I enjoy composition because I love to write. I have been writing stories since first grade. As I grew older, teachers commented on how I had a future in writing. I loved it, so that made it even better. Our composition teacher is also our English and literature teacher. She majored in literature in college and still shares the passion for expressing yourself. She is one of the best writing teachers I have ever had and is preparing us for the big dog in eleventh and twelfth grade who is known for her dreaded term papers. Composition not only allows you to express yourself, but also lets you get your feelings out one way or another. You could get to know someone just by reading some of their papers they have written! You may not always be able to play basketball or wear a size two, but you can always write and tell a story.
At Westwood, academics shine brightly along with our athletics. Throughout my freshman year, I took six different classes, two of which were split by semester. At the beginning of the year, I took geography for the first semester and composition the next semester, which is currently my favorite class. I also took computer fundamentals. While in this class, we learned everything you could possibly think of involving the internet and each were pushed to the end learning exactly what we were capable of doing. Study hall is a free class period that freshman get every day of the week, except Friday's, where you can catch up on school work, homework, study, or chill as long as you stay quiet. Our 2 study hall teachers were sweet enough to let us listen to music since music is proven to help keep your concentration zeroed in on your work, as long as you had headphones! In seventh grade, I made the scores to go into honors math. This year, I took geometry and became a member of the blonde board. I'm sure that tells you just enough about my math skills! Since I am in honors math currently, I'm on the path to AP Calculus which I will take my senior year. English and literature is my second favorite class. Last year, we advanced into ninth grade English. So this year, we traveled more into the literature area. We have read 5 major books this year, including Ethan Frome, A Tale of Two Cities, Animal Farm, Of Mice and Men, Romeo and Juliet, and are currently working on our last book for the year, Antigone. This year, our science class was split up into two groups, a faster learning class and a slower learning class. I was placed into the faster paced learning class. Everyone is placed on the path leading to take AP biology, which you have the choice of taking in tenth grade, but in the faster paced learning class, you cover more chapters faster. P.e. is our last class of the day where, if you are in season, you can practice with your team at p.e. If you aren't in season, then you work out to work out videos.

Sophomore Year
All of my classes have been very challenging for me this year, but for my favorite class, there is actually a tie! I find it hard to choose between Honors English/Literature and Algebra II. I love literature and I have a great teacher for it too. She always keeps it interesting in class and makes every test or quiz one you really have to think into. Mrs. Cantrell is extremely understanding and willing to work with you extra anytime you need it and work through a busy schedule. Her condolences and smile make all of the stress and frazzled nerves worth it in the end. Now, anyone who knows me knows that me and math NEVER have gotten along and probably never will, but I have enjoyed Algebra II this year mainly because I love my little 12 person algebra class, and our algebra teacher is the bomb! Coach Martin is as cool as a cucumber and can always make you laugh, no matter how much you just want to beat your head against the desk because you don't understand. He reminds me of Gibbs from NCIS! Coach Martin is really flexible with a busy schedule, mostly because he's been there and done that and he loves all types of sports. To make it even better, he's willing to stay after school anytime you need him for you to get extra help, no matter how long it takes.
This year was really stressful and crazy as far as the classroom goes. I was in all honors and AP classes. During my Freshman year, I took Computer Fundamentals, Study Hall, Honors math (geometry), advanced learning English/Literature, a fast paced learning Science class, and P.E. This year, I took Computer Science, Spanish I, Honors English/Literature and Composition II, AP Biology, Honors math (Algebra II), World History, P.E. three times a week, and study hall twice a week.
